Sonata Race Report 9th July

Sonata race report Late spring 5 of 6

Course 60

Wind condition 7-10 knots East to South east

Lots of sun cream needed and some strange wind shifts made for a good afternoon sailing with a few frustrating moments

First off the line was Skipper followed by Screwloose, BD2, Watersong and Blue Tack. Straight into a spinnaker hoist and by Gillingham reach Skipper had made the most of their start with a convincing lead followed by Watersong and BD2. By the first mark which was 20 Watersong had caught up with Skipper and by MYA1 Watersong had managed to move into first place.

After 25 Watersong went  North of the barge whereas the rest on the fleet stayed south which allowed Watersong to pull away and as the fleet reached 22 the wind dropped creating some very frustrating conditions. Luckily it was not long for the wind to fill in again and heading towards MYA1 for the second time BD2 managed to get passed Skipper which sealed the top 3 places

Spectators from the club house were also in for a treat  with Screwloose finding the mud only metres from the line

For most a good days racing, some sun burn and a bit frustrating at times
